Day 6 Selsey to the Isle of Wight

 After getting the bike back up and running it started up again from where it ended and I made my way to Selsey where I was lucky enough to see them recover the lifeboat. I then went via Hayling Island and Portsmouth lifeboat stations before catching the ferry to the Isle of Wight.

Motorbike shakedown testing

 To get ready for this tour I have been going on a few rides in the last weeks in order to find any major issues with the bike that crop up on the tour. I decided to make my first trip to Mersea island to visit the lifeboat station at West Mersea. Arguably a slightly too strenuous trip for a shakedown ride at about 110 miles for a round trip. Having only done small rides around the local countryside and only replacing small parts such as the decrepit original leather seat that was on the bike.  One part that was causing trouble on my small test rides was that the clutch plates would slip when kickstarted. This was 'solved' by tightening the clutch spring which did somewhat decrease the clutch slip. The bike performed admirably all the way to Mersea with no issues and one stop to fill up on fuel. Day 20 Burnham-on-Sea to Bristol

 Packed up camp and headed to Tony’s where he was ready on his Sunbeam model 90 which also had the number plate prefix of RL like mine. We then rode to Burnham on sea and took a photo outside the lifeboat station before heading on to Weston-super-Mare. We took another photo there before stopping for a quick coffee. We then parted ways and I headed to Portishead where I had a good chat with the volunteers there and they told me they were getting ready for anniversary of their 7th year in operation. I spent the next few days in Bristol staying at my cousin’s place having an interview for classic bike guide and getting some stickers made for my panniers, thanks to signs express Bristol for sorting out them for me same day  Swapping over tyres and putting in a fresh tube

Day 17 Falmouth to Bude, 100 miles for Mayday

 Today I decided to do 100 miles in line with the RNLI’s mayday mile celebration where the RNLI encourages people to travel a mile in any way they can in May. For this I planned to travel from Falmouth to Bude where we had some family friends to stay with. First stop from Falmouth was Newquay where I showed up in a break in the rain. Then on to Padstow which was very picturesque at the bottom of a cliff but a bit bleak in the rain. I then travelled around the estuary to get to Rock lifeboat station. Next was Port Isaac which was a fantastic old fishing village and the helmsman in the crew very kindly got a pin badge for me. I then had a bit of a run up to Bude where I quickly got a photo before heading to my stop for the night where I was very grateful to get in out of the rain and dry off!
